Talboys High Throughput Homogenizer is specifically designed for high throughput sample processing in a vial set or microplate format to produce effective homogenization of hard tissue samples. This homogenizer is proven for disrupting samples for DNA, RNA, and protein isolation procedures. The High Throughput Homogenizer was born from the request of a pathologist that needed an effective high throughput homogenization tool that could be easily transported to the field for surveying zoonotic viruses. Powered with a strong 1/4 horsepower motor, the High Throughput Homogenizer has been successfully used to homogenize tough samples such as corn, rice, soybean, and Arabidopsis callus.

It is also effective at homogenizing softer tissues from animals and leaf punches. When used with silica and zirconium grinding media, the High Throughput Homogenizer is also effective in disrupting microorganisms. Shaker produces a reciprocal motion that is optimized for grinding difficult samples. Easy-to-load tray securely locks vial set or microplate in place. Analog controls feature timer settings from 0 to 10 minutes and speed settings from 0 to 1,600 rpm. Unit includes a 92" detachable, 3-wire cord and plug (230 volt units are supplied with a Euro type plug). Grinding sets are sold separately.

Features

Grinding Vials and Vial Sets

Grinding vials and vial sets combine the benefits of the microplate format and the size of vials to provide a tool for higher throughput sample grinding. Vials are available in either polycarbonate or polyethylene materials. The 4ml vial is conveniently packaged in bulk with a threaded screw cap or in a vial set as described below. Either packaging offers a standard threaded polypropylene cap or a PTFE lined polypropylene for an added secure closure. The polyethylene vial set is offered in a 24 vial, 4 ml size.

The polycarbonate vial set is offered in two sizes; 24 vial, 4 ml size and 5 vial, 15 ml size. The 4 ml vial sets are each supplied with (1) 3/8" stainless steel grinding ball, and a threaded lid with a sealing mat that can be compressed over the vials in other homogenizing systems. For larger samples the 15 ml vial sets are available and are supplied with (2) 7/16" stainless steel grinding balls and a threaded lid. All sets are sold in cases of 10. Bulk packaging consists of 240, 4ml vials with lids only.

Grinding Balls

Grinding balls are used with deep well plates and vial sets to bead beat plant tissues, seeds, and animal tissues. These grinding balls are made of 440C stainless steel which allows them to be retrieved with a magnet while making them resistant to tarnishing. Grinding balls are treated to remove residual oils and contaminants prior to packaging. Recommended Applications: 5/32"- Use with deep well plates for leaf punches or animal tissue of 50 mg or less 3/8"- Good for homogenizing seeds and larger samples of animal tissue in polycarbonate vials. 7/16"- Suitable for larger grinding jobs, such as pooled seeds, in 15 ml vials.

When homogenization is complete, grinding balls can be removed with optional 24 Pin Magnet. Homogenized samples can be subsequently handled manually or in an automated system. The High Throughput Homogenizer is suitable for the isolation of protein, DNA, RNA, viruses, and other biological components released during homogenization.

24 Pin Magnet and Magnet Stand/Ball Separator

The 24 Pin Magnet and Magnet Stand/Ball Separator are tools for removing and replacing stainless steel grinding balls from 24 Well Vial Sets and deep well plates. The 24 Pin Magnet can be used to remove grinding balls before samples are added to the vials and then, with use of the Magnet Stand/Ball Separator, used to align and drop the grinding balls into the vials. Each 2" pin is capped with a strong neodymium rare earth magnet capable of holding multiple grinding balls.

The pins of this magnet can also be used to remove smaller grinding balls from 96 well and deep well plates. The Magnet Stand/Ball Separator aids dropping balls into the vials and for separating balls from the 24 Pin Magnet. This tool aligns 24 Well Vial Sets with the 24 Pin Magnet and separates grinding balls from the magnet so they drop into the vials. The stand/separator can also be used to hold the 24 Pin Magnet when not in use

Magnet Tips

These magnet micropipette tips are a simple, cost-effective solution for removing stainless steel grinding balls from 96 well plates and grinding vials. The tips are made to fit most 0-200μl pipets and work with steel and 440C stainless steel balls.
